Danbury police officers responded to the Glen Apartment Complex on Memorial Drive in Danbury for the report of a suspicious man around 9:15 p.m. on Dec.29. Upon arrival, officers observed a white male wielding a knife walking around the exterior of the property.
After a brief confrontation with the man, one of the officers deployed his taser on the male, but it was ineffective, state police said.
Shortly after, a second Danbury police officer fired multiple rounds from his duty pistol, striking the man at least once.
A tenant and female relative of the man also suffered a gunshot wound as a result of the discharge of the officer's weapon, according to state police.
Both parties were transported to Danbury Hospital where the man was pronounced dead.
The woman is listed as critical but in stable condition.
In accordance with state law, the Stamford States Attorney has been assigned by the Chief States Attorney to oversee the investigation, which is being conducted by the Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime Unit.
The names of those involved, including the man killed, have not yet been released.
The 98-unit Glen Apartment Complex is owned and managed by the Housing Authority of the City of Danbury and the majority of the residents are senior citizens.
